Summer Nights: Marin Came to Dance!

A large band performs outdoors on a wooden stage with microphones, keyboards, brass instruments, and drums, surrounded by trees and greenery. The musicians wear black shirts and play to an unseen audience.

On Saturday, August 1, more than 300 people spread out across Swig Field at the Osher Marin JCC for Summer Nights with the Grammy Award-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra — and from the very first note to the very last song, the dance floor never emptied.

The night started the way the best summer nights do: slowly, and with snacks. Doors opened at 5:30 pm, and the field filled in with lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and families staking out their patch of turf. Kids ran laps around the playground. Groups passed food down the row. Shoes: optional.

At 6:30 pm, Salsa Marin Dance Academy got everyone on their feet for a free lesson. By 7:00, the field was full of brand-new salsa dancers with real confidence and questionable timing — which is exactly the right ratio.

A large outdoor gathering with people seated at tables and mingling on a lawn, surrounded by trees and hills under a clear sky at sunset. Tents, string lights, and a playground are visible in the background.

Then the horns kicked in at 7:30 pm, and Swig Field turned into one big open-air dance floor. Golden hour hit right as the crowd got moving — that stretch of light where everything looks a little cinematic and everyone dances a little braver. Pacific Mambo Orchestra brought the brass, the rhythm, and the kind of stage energy that makes sitting still feel unnatural. Everybody was moving!

Ten years of Summer Nights

One of our favorite parts of the night had nothing to do with the setlist.

Eddie and Sandi met at Summer Nights ten years ago. Every year since, they’ve come back to celebrate their anniversary right here on this field — and Saturday night, they danced through their tenth.

That’s what this event is really about. We put on a concert; you turn it into a tradition. We’re so grateful we get to be part of their story.

Thank you

A huge thank you to our sponsors, Tri Counties Bank and HenHouse Brewing Company, for making the night possible. Thank you to the Pacific Mambo Orchestra for a performance we’re still talking about. Thank you to Salsa Marin Dance Academy for the lesson. And thank you to the Osher Marin JCC staff and volunteers who turned a field into a summer nights party

Most of all, thank you to everyone who showed up, danced, and made it a night to remember.
