Exploring Music: Jewish Masters of Popular Song

1-2:15pm (PT), 2-3:15pm (MT), 3-4:15pm (CT), 4-5:15pm (ET)

on Zoom

Don’t miss composer/pianist/instructor Clint Edwards’ return with an all-new mini-series focused on two Jewish masters of popular song:

Jan 11: Jule Styne

A hard-hitting tunesmith, long known for his legendary Broadway scores (Gypsy, Funny Girl) and larger-than-life personality, Jule Styne had his first successes as one of the masters of Tin Pan Alley.

Let’s explore the songs of Styne’s popular songbook, including the many hits he created with lyricist Sammy Cahn for their friend Frank Sinatra such as “Three Coins In A Fountain,” “It’s Been A Long, Long Time,” “I’ll Walk Alone,” “Time After Time” and more!

Jan 18: Burt Bacharach

The iconic songwriter is considered one of the most important and influential figures of 20th Century popular music. Let’s explore his catalogue of chart-topping hits, many written with lyricist Hal David, and sung by the great Dionne Warwick.

We’ll discuss Bacharach’s innovations in style, chord progressions, and unique take on rhythm in his songs such as “They Long To Be Close To You,” “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head,” “Do You Know The Way To San Jose,” and “I Say A Little Prayer.”
