Unit Head at Camp Kehillah

The Osher Marin Jewish Community Center is looking for talented staff to work at our awarding winning Summer Camp! Unit Heads should have experience working with children, being a peer leader or mentor, a positive attitude, and be interested in working in a fast-paced, team environment. Unit Heads are responsible for supervising their own team of camp staff, creating programs and participating in camp activities such as art, music, sports, swimming, Jewish programming, nature and much more! While we are a Jewish camp, identifying as Jewish is not a prerequisite for employment.

 

All Marin JCC Camp Kehillah staff members receive a free summer membership, which includes access to our fitness & aquatics center. Unit Heads also gain transferrable skills – we provide training in child development, community building, and certification in CPR and First Aid. General and Specific Responsibilities:

  • • Supervise, support and evaluate all unit staff.
  • • Develop programming for unit.
  • • Organize unit room & maintain cleanliness of unit and shared spaces.
  • • Order and coordinate unit supplies.
  • • Plan and implement unit meetings.
  • • Act as a resource for counselors regarding care of campers and staffing conflicts.
  • • Act as the direct communication with parents.
  • • Manage paperwork for the unit including rosters, attendance and newsletters.
  • • Assist in the event sick and injured campers or emergencies

 

Essential Functions:

  • • Be able to comfortably navigate short distances of rough terrain on short hikes or at campgrounds.
  • • Be able to assist in an emergency (fire, earthquake, injury, etc.)
  • • Be able to observe activities in order to assess safety of every camper.
  • • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

A Sports Specialist should have experience working with children of all ages in an academic or camp atmosphere, a positive attitude, and be interested in working in a fast-paced, team environment. The Sports Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of our Sports Program. This includes but is not limited to: overseeing and managing our sports closet and equipment inside, planning fun & exciting games and sports activities, and acting as a resource for other staff. Taube Center for Jewish Peoplehood Director

The Taube Center for Jewish Peoplehood (TCJP) Director is a key position at the Osher Marin JCC in advancing the central focus of the JCC to enrich Jewish Life, build Jewish community and identity, build cross-cultural understanding, and facilitate connections with Israel.

 

The position is responsible for handling the day-to-day vision, oversight, implementation, promotion, and execution of the program menu for TCJP – dynamic, cutting-edge, creative, inclusive, and collaborative Jewish learning opportunities and Jewish cultural events appealing to all ages. The Director will work in close collaboration with the JCC executive and management team, TCJP staff, lay leadership, and community partners to implement strategies and programs that strengthen Jewish engagement for Marin and its neighboring communities.

 

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works in partnership with other lead departments and campus and community partners. This is a full-time exempt managerial position that will supervise department staff and outside vendors as needed to execute the objectives of the department.

Group Fitness Aqua Instructor/Substitute

Aqua exercise Instructor position falls under the direction of the Group Fitness Supervisor of the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center. This position provides a dynamic, safe and fun Aqua-Fitness class appropriate for the class format and participant’s ability level.

 

Responsibilities:

  • • Arrive at least five minutes early for class to ensure proper equipment set up and member interaction.
  • • Assure that all equipment is stored correctly after class.
  • • Confirm number of students in class on sign-in sheet or GXP application.
  • • Provide sign-in sheets to the Group fitness supervisor.
  • • Communicate equipment problems & concerns to the Group fitness supervisor via email and cell phone.
  • • Responsible for finding an appropriate substitute if unable to teach class and MUST inform Group fitness supervisor with substitution information in a timely manner.
  • • Develop relationships with class participants; learn names and workout patterns, ensuring member retention.
  • • Attend all staff meetings.
  • • Clock in and out, if you forget to clock in or out please let the Group fitness supervisor know.
  • • Other duties, as assigned by the Group Fitness Supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

  • • Current CPR/AED First Aid certified.
  • • Current certification in area of instruction.

Side by Side Teacher

The Side by Side Teacher reports to the ECE Operations Manager or ECE Director.

The Side by Side Teacher reports to the ECE Operations Manager or ECE Director.

 

Responsibilities:

Job duties are the sole responsibility of the Side by Side Teacher. Side by Side classrooms are shared spaces and must be maintained for a variety of uses. Teacher responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

 

  • • Interactions with children and caregivers must reflect respect, compassion and a willingness to gently guide the child.
  • • Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum in accordance with the philosophy of the JCC Early Childhood programs.
  • • Understand and articulate the philosophy of the JCC Preschool.
  • • Curriculum should promote a diverse and anti-bias atmosphere.
  • • Supervise children, provide guidance to caregivers and follow proper safety procedures at all times.
  • • Attend at least one JCC Preschool staff meeting per session and incorporate learning into practice.
  • • Participate in recommended opportunities for professional growth.
  • • Communicate clearly, appropriately and in a timely manner with colleagues and the administrative staff.
  • • Maintain professional standards and conduct.

Before session:

  • • Before session begins, check room set up and wipe down tables and chairs with bleach and water solution
  • • Set up room with developmentally appropriate offerings for children ages 18 months-3 years
  • • Maintain an aesthetically pleasing environment by regularly checking the quality of equipment and materials
  • • Clean manipulatives and other toys regularly to maintain a clean, healthy environment

 

During session:

  • • Greet children and caregivers promptly at class scheduled start time (9:15 or 11 AM)
  • • Maintain attendance sheet
  • • Engage with caregivers to promote other programs, including the preschool, JCC swim classes, etc.
  • • Help participants make connections

 

After session:

  • • Tidy room, stack chairs on tabletops
  • • Check the quality of materials and equipment and report any damages/need for replacement to supervisor via email
  • • Place orders for food and materials well in advance by submitting list in writing to the ECE Administration
  • • Attend all scheduled meetings with supervisor

 

Qualifications:

Teachers hired as a Side by Side Teacher must have experience working with children and families in a group setting. ECE units preferred.

 

Salary & Benefits:

Side by Side Teachers are paid an hourly rate of $30 for a total of 2.5 hours per 1.5 hour session (includes time for class preparation and clean up). A separate hourly rate (determined by education and experience) will be paid for supervision meetings and any other pre-approved additional hours, including for professional development.

Teaching positions are 30-35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Swim Instructor

The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing consistent quality swim instruction in private and group swim lessons. We offer flexible hours, discounts on JCC programs/events and a friendly, warm environment!

Responsibilities:

  • • Provide quality swim instruction to children, teenagers, and adults in private and/or group swim lessons.
  • • Establish clear objectives and goals based on class description, modify instruction based on participant ability and maintain a supportive and positive classroom environment.
  • • Adhere to swim and pool safety standards. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current Water Safety Instruction and Center rules and standards.
  • • Establish consistency of availability in the swim schedule. Provide Swim Instruction Manager with available teaching times and days subject to the needs of the Swim Instruction Department. Is punctual and prepared for all swim lessons. Is flexible regarding last-minute substitution in either private or group swim lessons.
  • • Effectively communicates with students, parents, Swim Instruction Manager and the Aquatic Programs Manager.
  • • Attend mandatory staff swim instructor meetings.
  • • May be asked to substitute for other swim instructors due to illness or schedule changes.
  • • Attend continuing education classes to keep certifications current. Attend classes or use facilities to increase swim instruction abilities and personal health.
  • • Support message and mission of Osher Marin JCC (OMJCC).
  • • Is courteous to OMJCC members, staff, and the public.
  • • Follow pool rules and directions from Lifeguard.
  • • Shifts up to 18 hours per week are available.
