Chief Operating Officer

The Osher Marin JCC Preschool in San Rafael, CA and Mill Valley, CA

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a thought and strategy partner to the Chief Executive Officer, playing a pivotal role in contributing to and translating the agency’s vision into day-to-day execution, ensuring that operations align with long-term goals. The COO is expected to lead department heads, foster collaboration, and ensure that communication flows effectively across the organization. The position requires a strategic and dynamic leader with keen interpersonal skills, excellent advanced supervisory experience, strong background in process optimization, operational management, program development and oversight, efficiency improvements, and experience in integrating technology solutions to enhance operational performance and service delivery. As a member of the executive team, the COO works closely with board leaders.

 

Primary Responsibilities

• Collaborate with CEO in setting strategic direction and maintaining an organizational culture committed to high performance, efficiency, optimism, and growth.

• Serve as a thought partner with the CEO in decision making, goal setting, and evaluation of organizational progress.

• Oversee daily operations across all JCC programs and facilities, ensuring quality programming, regulatory compliance, and alignment with JCC values.

• Lead and develop department heads across membership, fitness, early childhood education, camp, performing arts, marketing, facilities, and café, fostering a culture of excellence and community impact.

• Partner to develop and manage an annual operating budget of $13M while driving revenue growth year over year.

• Evaluate program performance and profitability through defined goals, recommending and tracking improvements, and identifying new revenue and cost saving opportunities.

• Support Board committees and task forces, ensuring effective communication and collaboration between staff and Board leadership.

• Manage campus partner relationships and oversee facility security operations.

Partner with HR in managing union contract, employee relations, and staff performance matters as necessary.

• Ensure effective cross-functional collaboration and communication, aligning teams across departments and resolving operational conflicts.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.

• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in oversight of multiple program areas and operational management in positions of increasing responsibility, preferably with a JCC or similar organization.

• Proven experience in advanced supervision of management level employees and building successful high-functioning teams.

• Experience and proficiency with fiscal management of annual budgets more than $5M.

• Demonstrate leadership skills in effective management strategies and organization, creativity and flexibility, and communication skills.

• Ability to work in the JCC environment that honors pluralism, multiculturalism and support for Israel as the Jewish homeland. Knowledge of Jewish history, values, and culture preferred.

• Experience managing campus relations and union contract preferred.

• Proven ability to resolve conflicts effectively and in timely professional manner.

• Experience in data-driven decision making and driving areas to reach set goals.

• Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

• Customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion.

• Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including MS Office Suite and Outlook.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.

 

Position and Compensation

• Full-time onsite exempt (executive level) position

• Salary range $175,000 – $200,000 annually, based on experience

• Allowance toward health, dental, vision insurance; life and disability insurance; Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

• 22 vacation days, 13 sick days plus approximately 15 national and Jewish holidays per year

ECE Teacher

The Osher Marin JCC Preschool in San Rafael, CA and Mill Valley, CA

The JCC Preschools in San Rafael and Mill Valley are seeking teacher-qualified individuals who are passionate about early childhood education and love working with children. Our values-based learning environment fosters a strong sense of community among children, families, and staff. We follow a constructivist, emergent curriculum approach grounded in Jewish values, emphasizing relationships, curiosity, and meaningful learning.

 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

· Providing physical and emotional care for children, including diapering and/or changing, meals, nap time, and meeting needs as appropriate.

· Maintaining an appropriate learning environment, both indoors and outdoors.

· Respectful and compassionate Interactions with the children.

· Providing supervision of children, both indoors and outdoors.

· A willingness to assist teachers with children and other classroom housekeeping duties.

Qualifications:

· We prefer hiring teachers who are professionally prepared as teachers of young children, with a minimum of 12 units in the field of early childhood education and development, however, we will consider other caring individuals anyone on the ECE path with experience with young children.

· Teachers must be sensitive in communicating with others and be able to relate professionally with children and adults.

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

· Ability to meet the employment requirements of the licensing agency including clear background check and Live Scan fingerprinting.

Lifeguard

The Osher Marin Jewish Community Center in San Rafael, CA

Learn about the position.

We have several part-time lifeguard opportunities available – morning, evening and weekend shifts available! These YEAR-ROUND positions can range from 4-18 hours per week, with a flexible schedule. Benefits include JCC full facility membership and discounts on JCC programs/events and a friendly, warm environment!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Guarding and providing a safe environment for members with a 15 – 30 minute pool rotation schedule.
  • Learning and enforcing the pool rules as well as those guidelines set out by the American Red Cross as they pertain to lifeguard skills and training.
  • Being fully alert and aware of emergencies and procedures.
  • Performing pool opening procedures, closing procedures and participating in the daily maintenance of the pools.
  • Installing and removing lane lines according to need and schedule.
  • Interacting with the members appropriately and professionally.
  • Attending mandatory monthly aquatic in-service trainings.
  • Properly filling out incident and accident reports when necessary.
  • Working as a team with other staff members.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/ First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification or equivalent.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for up to 4 hours at a time, swim at least 300 yards continuously, and lift at least 50 lbs.
  • The lifeguard should be reliable and responsible, with a strong sense of commitment to their job and to the Center’s larger purpose.

 

We are training lifeguards and will reimburse course fees after having worked 6 months continuously at the JCC.

Side by Side Teacher

The Side by Side Teacher reports to the ECE Operations Manager or ECE Director.

Responsibilities:

Job duties are the sole responsibility of the Side by Side Teacher. Side by Side classrooms are shared spaces and must be maintained for a variety of uses. Teacher responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

 

  • • Interactions with children and caregivers must reflect respect, compassion and a willingness to gently guide the child.
  • • Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum in accordance with the philosophy of the JCC Early Childhood programs.
  • • Understand and articulate the philosophy of the JCC Preschool.
  • • Curriculum should promote a diverse and anti-bias atmosphere.
  • • Supervise children, provide guidance to caregivers and follow proper safety procedures at all times.
  • • Attend at least one JCC Preschool staff meeting per session and incorporate learning into practice.
  • • Participate in recommended opportunities for professional growth.
  • • Communicate clearly, appropriately and in a timely manner with colleagues and the administrative staff.
  • • Maintain professional standards and conduct.
  • • Maintain confidentiality of school-related information.
  • • Perform other duties, as requested by supervisor

 

Before session:

  • • Before session begins, check room set up and wipe down tables and chairs with bleach and water solution
  • • Set up room with developmentally appropriate offerings for children ages 18 months-3 years
  • • Maintain an aesthetically pleasing environment by regularly checking the quality of equipment and materials
  • • Clean manipulatives and other toys regularly to maintain a clean, healthy environment

 

During session:

  • • Greet children and caregivers promptly at class scheduled start time (9:15 or 11 AM)
  • • Maintain attendance sheet
  • • Engage with caregivers to promote other programs, including the preschool, JCC swim classes, etc.
  • • Help participants make connections

 

After session:

  • • Tidy room, stack chairs on tabletops
  • • Check the quality of materials and equipment and report any damages/need for replacement to supervisor via email
  • • Place orders for food and materials well in advance by submitting list in writing to the ECE Administration
  • • Attend all scheduled meetings with supervisor

 

Qualifications:

Teachers hired as a Side by Side Teacher must have experience working with children and families in a group setting. ECE units preferred.

 

Salary & Benefits:

Side by Side Teachers are paid an hourly rate of $30 for a total of 2.5 hours per 1.5 hour session (includes time for class preparation and clean up). A separate hourly rate (determined by education and experience) will be paid for supervision meetings and any other pre-approved additional hours, including for professional development.
