Midday Movies: Bells Are Ringing

Tue, March 3, 2020 1:00 pm - 3:10 pm

Share the delight of (re-)discovering a classic film and, if interested, stay after and chat with others about the film, life, whatever!

Born Judith Tuvim in NYC, Judy Holliday was the only child of a father who served, for a time, as the executive director of the Jewish National Fund of America and a mother who taught piano. Her first job was as an assistant switchboard operator at the Mercury Theater, which is ironic given that – many years later – she will deliver an award-winning portrayal of a switchboard operator on the Broadway stage and in film. In fact, today, we show that very film!

Join us to be charmed by Judy Holliday’s award-winning portrayal

in the enchanting musical

Bells Are Ringing

Ella Peterson (Judy Holliday) is an operator for an answering service run by her cousin, Sue (Jean Stapleton). Lacking excitement in her personal life, Ella starts becoming involved in the lives of the service's clients, including a struggling playwright, Jeffrey Moss (Dean Martin). As Ella gets in over her head dealing with a bookie posing as a record producer (Eddie Foy, Jr.), she tries to hide her real identity. That becomes more difficult when she begins to fall in love with Jeffrey.  Don’t miss this delightful romantic musical comedy with an incomparable cast!

The film is expected to run 1:00-3:10pm.

No-registration is necessary.  Just show up and join in!
