Learning Unlimited: Economics of Climate Change
Tue, December 10, 2019 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Climate change is one of the most significant challenges humanity faces and economics can help us understand the problem and how to address it. This presentation will address the science of climate change -by way of background- discuss the economic costs associated with climate change, present a set of policy options for mitigating these costs, and provide evidence of real-world experience with some of these policy tools.
Jon Haveman is the Executive Director of the National Economic Education Delegation (NEED). NEED is an organization with a mission of spreading economic insights into important policy issues throughout the electorate. It does this by encouraging members of the economics profession, largely academics, to give talks to audiences ranging from high school classrooms to Kiwanis, Rotary, and Lions Clubs.
Dr. Haveman has given more than 500 talks to groups ranging from high school classes to Congressional hearings. This experience is the basis of his vision for NEED. Dr. Haveman holds a Ph.D. and Master of Science in Economics from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin.
