Learning Unlimited: The Battle Between Cross and Crescent: The Hungarians, the Ottomans, the Hapsburgs in Vienna & Budapest.
Mon, October 1, 2018 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Visitors to these cities on the Danube are captivated by the architecture, music and ambience that seem so redolently Hapsburg. But there were periods beginning with the Battle of Mohacs that brought the Hungarian Kingdom under Ottoman rule, the Siege of Vienna by Suleyman the Magnificent in 1526, and another siege by Kara Mustapha in 1623. (Keep in mind that it was the Ottoman occupation, which introduced Paprika, Coffee Houses and Bath Houses to these other cities!). Join Kerrin Meis to meet the major actors in this drama and learn what was so important about the area to all parties including the Hapsburgs who ultimately prevailed.
