Spice Up Your Seder: Learn how to make four types of haroset!
Monday, April 3 @ 6:00 pm–7:30 pm
- Osher Marin JCC
- 200 North San Pedro Road
San Rafael, CA 94903 United States
Just in time for Passover, join us to discover more about this Seder plate staple! Haroset symbolizes the clay with which our ancestors worked with as slaves in Egypt. The haroset recipe has changed over the years and generations, creating different spreads that reflect the raw materials available to the Jews in various communities around the world using the staples of fruit and nuts.
When you ask Israelis about haroset they always get emotional. Even though it’s a dish that we only eat once a year, it’s filled with memories. Every family swears that their haroset is the best. In this workshop, chef Aliza Somekh will guide us through recipes she’s collected from friends and also share her own family’s recipe. During our time together, we’ll travel through Iraq, Ashkenaz, Yemen and to Jerusalem through this Passover staple.
Aliza Grayevsky Somekh is a chef, caterer and eighth generation Jerusalemite! Raised in the kitchens of Jerusalem, she grew up cooking and eating everything the city’s streets and markets had to offer, making her intimately familiar with Jerusalem’s culinary collision of flavors and cultures. Her approach to cooking is a melting pot fusing the diverse culinary influences that she grew up with, and inspired by the abundance of quality produce in California. This “best of all worlds” touch creates dishes that are contemporary and rich in both flavor and history. www.bishulimsf.com
