The Butterfly Project
at the JCC
Stay tuned this coming 2015-16 season for The Butterfly Project! Members of our community, of all ages and backgrounds, will be invited to create butterflies at designated Osher Marin JCC events and programs. The completed project will then be exhibited in our space mid-2016 to commemorate Yom Hashoah.
About The Butterfly Project
Inspired by the book I Never Saw Another Butterfly: Children’s Drawings and Poems from the Terezin Concentration Camp, 1942-1944, The Butterfly Project was initiated by two teachers in the San Diego Jewish Academy in 2006 to remember the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust. This iteration of the project began at the Peninsula JCC, as a powerful tribute to the beauty, fragility and diversity of all living things. The butterflies created at the Pensinsula JCC will be incorporated into the Osher Marin JCC’s expanded project, as a testament to the strength of our greater Bay Area Jewish community. The continuation of The Butterfly Project is intended for travel to other JCC venues, and can be expanded and adapted to suit the individual needs of each host community.
