Salaam, Shalom: Speaking of Peace :: A 3-Part Series

Salaam, Shalom: Speaking of Peace

To increase dialogue and understanding among and between local faith communities, we are proud to present this series of three programs— supported by multiple religious organizations across the North Bay. Each program tells the story of people who have worked to overcome barriers created by religious and other differences to forge an alliance of good will, peace and prosperity. These inspiring stories illuminate how the path to peace is often paved by those who had the courage to reach across the aisle to someone they once considered a stranger or enemy—to listen and attempt to understand the world from another point of view.

Opening Reception

Birds of Longing: Exile and Memory
Wed, Jan 20, 2016: 5-7pm

Join us for the opening reception of Birds of Longing: Exile and Memory, a new exhibition by the New York-based fiber artist, Laurie Wohl. The fiber art works, known as Unweavings®, intertwine Muslim, Jewish and Christian poetry and spiritual texts from the period of the Convivencia in Spain and from contemporary Middle Eastern poets. Meet the artist at the opening reception on Thursday, January 20, 2016, from 5-7pm, and learn more about this powerful project, the catalyst for its creation, and how it seeks to connect Judaism, Christianity and Islam through the striking interplay of text and imagery.
