Senior Sojourn: Spectacular Gold Country

Enjoy the spring in the beautiful and historic Sierras! 

Join us on our chartered coach for the drive through the central valley with a stop in our state capital.  When we arrive in the infamous California gold rush town of Placerville we will check in at the Historic Cary House Hotel.  Our visit to this fascinating region will feature the towns of Placerville, Sutter Creek and Grass Valley and Nevada City.  Start off with a walking tour of downtown Placerville, take in gold mining history with the Fountain and Tallman Historic Society! 

Also, a visit to the El Dorado County Historic Museum and to the location of the first major gold strike-the one that started it all at the Marshall Gold Discovery Site State Historic Park

We will cross over to Amador County and visit to America’s last water-powered foundry and machine shop, est. in 1873, the Knight Foundry.  We will tour the so called Bourne Cottage at the Empire Mine and a local productions of Rogers and Hammerstein’s one and only “South Pacific” at the historic Nevada City’s…Nevada Theatre!
